I made these lollipop cookies for my niece one christmas years ago. After that it's been a tradition in my family to make these. They are the perfect holiday gift—wrap four of these in cellophane with a pretty ribbon. Such a cute gift.

Makes about 25

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
3 tablespoons maple syrup
powdered sugar
water
25 lolipop sticks

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and maple syrup. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll out the dough to a thin layer and cut out stars, and place onto un-greased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
  4. Mix powdered sugar and water to a thick frosting.
  5. Fill in a piping bag with a small tip and frost all around the stars.
  6. Sprinkle with décor sugar.
  7. Melt a little sugar in a pan and use that as glue to glue the sticks to the back of the cookies.
